Why this exists
Beyond the Login explores identity and access management from the foundations to the details that make real systems work. We cover how identities are established, how trust is built, how authentication works, and how access is granted and enforced.
Our scope spans the identity lifecycle, from creating accounts and managing credentials to reviewing permissions and retiring access. We’ll explore the standards, architecture, and operational decisions behind identity for people, applications, devices, and agents, including how those choices hold up when something goes wrong. Coverage will grow over time, connecting established approaches with emerging challenges across the field.
About the Founders
My name is Christopher Carter, and I’m a co-founder of Beyond the Login. I’ve spent the past six and a half years working in Identity and Access Management (IAM), and I currently work as a CIAM Architect.
Over that time, I’ve developed a deep interest in how identity works and how we explain it. I co-founded Beyond the Login to share my passion, keep learning, and make complex identity concepts easier to understand through clear explanations and practical examples.
I’m building Beyond the Login alongside my good friend and incredible designer, Timothy Smith Yusef. Timothy brings seven years of experience in website design and design tooling, and I’m excited about what we can create together.
Regardless of your experience level in this field, I hope you find something useful here. I believe we never stop growing, and this project is my way of giving back to the community so we can grow together.
